| Kubernetes | Toggles Colima Kubernetes and reads cluster state with kubectl. | User enables and inspects Kubernetes directly with CLI commands. |
| GUI scope | Profiles, Overview, Monitor, Docker inventory, Kubernetes views, Diagnostics, Activity, menu bar. | No GUI in Colima itself. |
| Multi-profile | Select, start, stop, restart, update, edit, and delete profiles in the app. | Full profile control through CLI flags and environment. |
| Diagnostics/logging | Aggregates tool checks, status, Docker/Kubernetes checks, and daemon log display. | User runs commands and inspects files manually. |
| Menu bar | Yes. | No. |
| Migration | No runtime migration; it uses the same Colima installation. | No migration. |
Choose ColimaStack when
Section titled “Choose ColimaStack when”- You want a quick status and inventory view for an existing Colima setup.
- You manage more than one profile and want visible state before mutating it.
- You want local Diagnostics and Activity views without manually stitching commands together.
Choose the Colima CLI when
Section titled “Choose the Colima CLI when”- You need full Colima functionality not surfaced in the app.
- You are scripting, automating, or debugging exact CLI behavior.
- You prefer terminal-only workflows.
ColimaStack keeps the CLI contract visible in Command API.
